What Camera Does Nikki Sixx Use?

by Buffalo Bob on September 24, 2011

Yes, you read that right – Nikki Sixx, bass player for Motley Crue, is a photographer, and he’s got a Tumblr blog loaded with his images.

In his own words: “I’m a recovering addict. Cameras are my new drug.”

Nikki shoots a pretty diverse mix of portraiture, street photography, and behind-the-scenes stuff from his life as a celebrity and rock star.

As a pretty wealthy guy, Nikki’s got all the money in the world to buy gear, and he uses a pretty diverse selection of equipment.

According to his Tumblr page, Nikki is a big fan of the Leica M9 Digital Rangefinder. He also uses a $23,000 Leica S2.

Nikki is also a Nikon fan, actively using a D3 body, quite often with a Lensbaby.

However, Nikki isn’t all digital. He also shoots a Fuji 645 medium-format film camera, and a Contax G2. FYI – Adorama has tons of great used film cameras for sale here.

Nikki’s style doesn’t seem to be gear-specific, except for the aforementioned Lensbaby (also available for Canon). So there isn’t really anything reasonably-priced to buy should you like his style.

Yes, but he KNOWS how to use the equipment. Frankly, I think that his street shots are among the finest street shots going. I’m a street photog who uses a Leica M3 and I know good street shots. My only regret is that I wish he did more street work.
